This is a sleep-away kids summer camp and relocation is required, however room, board and food are provided.
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Head Cook / Kitchen Manager to lead all kitchen operations at our summer camp. This role is responsible for preparing three meals per day for up to 300 people, including approximately 200 campers and 70 staff at peak capacity. Camper numbers gradually decrease as the summer progresses.
The Head Cook oversees food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and daily operations, ensuring meals are nutritious, well-organized, and served on time in a high-volume commercial kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Planning & Food Preparation
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily for campers and staff
- Cook for large groups efficiently while maintaining food quality and consistency
- Prepare a daily dessert/snack for campers, served in the evening before bedtime
- Adjust portion sizes and food quantities as camper numbers change throughout the summer
- Ensure meals meet camp standards and basic nutritional needs as well as all types of dietary descriptions
Management & Organization
- Organize daily kitchen workflow to ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule
- Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs
- Minimize food waste and manage supplies efficiently
- Coordinate with camp leadership regarding schedules, special events, or dietary needs
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a commercial or institutional kitchen
- Experience cooking for large groups (100+ people)
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen hygiene standards
- Ability to work long, active days in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly workspace under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in camps, schools, cafeterias, or large-scale food service
- Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience supervising or coordinating kitchen staff
- You MUST have a clear criminal record and a vulnerable sector check

Pay: $5,000.00 per month
