The Veterinary Assistant - Surgery role at Capital City is primarily designed to provide support to the Surgery team between the hours 7:00am and 10:00pm, Monday through Friday. A dedicated team member for the Surgery department will allow Capital City uphold our reputation for efficient, friendly client service and exceptional patient care.
More specific details of the role are included below.
Performing veterinary assistant duties such as (but not limited to):
- Assisting with imaging and diagnostics
- Caring for hospitalized patients (In all areas of the hospital)
- Assisting the veterinary technician with IV placement
- Assisting the veterinary technician with blood draws
- Communication with other team members
- Assisting with admit-to-hospital procedures for transfer patients
- Sit, Stand, walk, kneel, bend, or crouch for extended periods of time
- Lift, support, or restrain heavy patients (with assistance)
Surgery specific duties (including but not limited to):
- Assisting the veterinary technician with induction
- Assisting with recovery and transfer of surgical patients
- Aseptic preparation of surgical patients
- Knowledge of cleaning and wrapping surgical instruments
- End of day surgical OR and department cleaning
- Discharging of surgical patients
- Task focused and proactive
