Summer Day Camp Volunteers assist Day Camp Leaders with preparing and implementing Summer Day Camps for children ages 3-12Y.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive on time and ready for shift wearing proper uniform.
- Look over the lesson plans so you are aware of the activities scheduled for each day.
- Welcome participants and customers as they enter the space or camp.
- Actively participate in all camp activities and interact positively with children.
- Work closely with leaders to provide a safe, fun, and engaging camp atmosphere.
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of any equipment associated with the camp.
- Help with cleaning camp areas and supplies throughout each day.
- Be aware of all safety and emergency procedures.
- Be willing and adaptable to learning new processes and following procedures.
- Supervise participants and ensure they are following safety rules and guidelines.
- Assist by being a great role model: listen to the leader(s), sit with the group during instructions, and model appropriate behaviour.
- Help with any demonstrations or instructions as requested by the leader(s).
- Provide positive feedback and guidance to participants.
- Regularly check messages and maintain communication with supervisors.
- Be responsible for logging hours on appropriate time sheets.
- Attend all volunteer meetings and training sessions as assigned.
- Be prepared and excited to spend majority of time outdoors (rain or shine).
- Be enthusiastic and bring energy to every shift!
Work Term:
- July 02 – September 02
- Minimum commitment of 2 full weeks (does not need to be consecutive) – Approximately 80 hours.
- Weekdays, Monday – Friday: 8:30 – 4:30pm
Qualifications/ Skills Required:
- Between 13 and 17 years of age.
- Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Bronze Medallion.
- Comfortable swimming
- Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside.
Mandatory Training:
Summer Camp Volunteers are required to attend all training dates from one of the following two options:
Option 1:
- Friday June 12th (evening)
- Saturday June 13th (full day)
- Sunday June 14th (full day)
Option 2:
- Friday July 17th (evening)
- Saturday July 18th (full day)
- Sunday July 19th (full day)
All 3 training sessions within Option 1 or Option 2 are mandatory and must be fully attended.
