Senior FinOps Analyst – Optimization & Automation
Position Summary (Purpose of Job)
The Senior FinOps Analyst – Optimization & Automation is responsible for driving enterprise-wide cloud cost optimization, financial accountability, and automation maturity across McKesson’s cloud environments.
This role leads the identification, prioritization, and execution oversight of optimization initiatives, ensuring measurable financial impact and alignment with enterprise objectives. The position serves as a key partner to Engineering, Platform, and Finance teams—translating cloud usage into actionable financial insights and enabling cost-efficient decision-making.
Operating with a high degree of independence, this role contributes to the advancement of McKesson’s FinOps capabilities by standardizing processes, scaling automation, and improving cost transparency and governance across AWS and Azure environments.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Cost Optimization & Value Realization

Identify, prioritize, and oversee execution of cloud cost optimization opportunities across enterprise platforms

Own the end-to-end optimization lifecycle, including opportunity identification, execution tracking, and validation of realized savings

Drive optimization strategies, including rightsizing, pricing optimization, and commitment-based savings (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans)

Establish and maintain KPIs, metrics, and reporting to track optimization performance and financial impact

Ensure optimization efforts align with enterprise financial targets and FinOps best practices
Automation & Process Enablement

Define requirements for scalable, policy-driven optimization workflows and automation capabilities

Partner with Engineering teams to design and implement automation solutions that reduce manual effort

Drive improvements in time-to-value, optimization coverage, and operational efficiency

Support the evolution of FinOps automation strategy and long-term scalability initiatives
FinOps Platform Ownership & Reporting

Serve as functional owner/administrator for cloud cost management platforms (e.g., Cloudability, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management)

Manage configurations, allocation logic, dashboards, reporting structures, and KPI tracking

Ensure data accuracy, auditability, and compliance with financial governance standards

Identify gaps and drive enhancements in tools, dashboards, and reporting capabilities
Stakeholder Collaboration & Governance

Provide data-driven insights to support financial accountability and decision-making across Engineering and Finance

Partner cross-functionally to drive adoption of cost optimization practices and resolve execution challenges

Present optimization performance, savings outcomes, and trends to leadership and governance forums

Support ongoing governance processes, including KPI reviews, funding discussions, and executive reporting
Minimum Requirements

Typically requires10+ years of relevant experience; less may be required with advanced degree
Critical Skills

5–8+ years of experience inFinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud cost optimization

Demonstrated success deliveringmeasurable, validated cloud cost savings

Experience working withAWS and/or Azure cloud environments

Hands-on experience withFinOps or cloud cost management tools

Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical data into business and financial insights

Proven ability to collaborate acrossEngineering, Platform, and Finance teams

Experience supporting or designingautomation and policy-driven optimization workflows

Knowledge of FinOps operating models, governance structures, and best practices

FinOps Practitioner certification or equivalent experience preferred
