We are looking for an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Engineer / Technologist to join our team!
As a Mechanical Engineer or Technologist, you will play a key role in the execution of multidisciplinary industrial projects, including mechanical engineering leadership, client coordination, field assessments, and development of practical engineering solutions for both new facilities and brownfield upgrades. Your work will focus on the mechanical engineering execution, piping system design, rotating and static equipment evaluation, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and code requirements. Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of engineering deliverables, coordinating directly with clients and stakeholders, and balancing technical execution with project delivery objectives. This position may be based in any of the Wave offices, but preference will be given to candidates based in Grande Prairie.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on experience and career aspirations, responsibilities may include the following within industrial and energy sector projects:
- Lead mechanical engineering scope for small to mid-size multidisciplinary projects, from initial scoping and field review through detailed design and construction support.
- Coordinate directly with clients, vendors, field personnel, and internal disciplines to support successful project execution.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for engineering deliverables, including design reviews, calculations, drawings, specifications, and procurement support documentation.
- Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.
- Perform field assessments, site troubleshooting, constructability reviews, and redline/as-built verification activities.
- Develop and review engineering documents including DBMs, PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, equipment specifications, datasheets, and technical reports.
- Support equipment sizing, selection, and evaluation for rotating and static mechanical equipment systems.
- Mentor junior engineers, designers, and technologists to support technical development and consistent deliverable quality.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal engineering standards, procedures, and design practices.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- P.Eng designation with APEGA or CET designation with ASET.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or an accredited Engineering Technology Diploma in a related discipline.
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience within the oil and gas sector, with working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (B31.3, CSA Z662).
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, valves, fittings, pumps, compressors, and related rotating equipment; familiarity with piping specs & valve class tables.
- Project coordination or project management experience on small to mid-size, multidisciplinary projects.
- Field experience with the ability to independently assess mechanical systems and mark-up drawings for redlines and as-builts.
- Demonstrated ability to independently coordinate and execute multidisciplinary engineering scopes within consulting or industrial project environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel for client meetings or site activities.
