Position Summary
The Senior Project Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight for large-scale forestry and environmental projects, ensuring successful execution from planning through completion. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary teams, oversee budgets and schedules, engage with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards.
This position requires a highly organized leader with extensive experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, and natural resource operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Direct and oversee multiple forestry and environmental management projects.
- Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and performance objectives.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Establish project governance frameworks and reporting structures.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with government agencies, Indigenous communities, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders.
- Lead consultations, project reviews, and executive presentations.
- Address stakeholder concerns and facilitate effective communication throughout project lifecycles.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
- Monitor project performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
- Oversee contract administration and procurement activities.
- Ensure efficient allocation of resources across multiple projects.
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal forestry regulations.
- Support environmental assessments and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting forestry operations.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and support project managers, field supervisors, and technical specialists.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support employee development and succession planning initiatives.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of project management experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience managing large-scale forestry, environmental, infrastructure, or resource development projects.
- Strong understanding of forestry operations, environmental regulations, and land-use planning.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
Preferred
- Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designation.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and consultation processes.
- Knowledge of Canadian forestry legislation and sustainable forest management practices.
