Job Overview
DBL Disposal Services is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Scale Operator to join our team at our busy waste management, recycling, and gravel mart facility in Parksville. This position is primarily responsible for operating the scale house, processing inbound and outbound loads, maintaining accurate records, and providing excellent customer service to both commercial and public clients.
The successful candidate will also assist with general yard operations and equipment operation as required to support the daily flow of waste, recycling, and aggregate materials throughout the facility.
Duties
- Operate the scale system to accurately weigh and process inbound and outbound loads
- Create and process weigh tickets, invoices, and customer transactions accurately and efficiently
- Direct customers, contractors, and truck drivers to appropriate dumping, recycling, and loading areas
- Verify load contents and ensure compliance with DBL Disposal Services material policies and site procedures
- Maintain accurate records and data entry within scale software and internal systems
- Answer phones, respond to customer inquiries, and provide professional front-line customer service
- Coordinate with operators, drivers, and yard staff to maintain efficient site traffic flow and operations
- Support gravel mart operations, including loading customer-owned vehicles and gravel trucks when required
- Operate loaders and other equipment safely and efficiently as needed
- Assist with sorting recyclable and waste materials to support facility operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scale house, yard, and surrounding work areas
- Perform routine inspections of equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times
Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, recycling, construction, trucking, aggregates, or similar industries is preferred
- Experience operating scale systems, weigh software, POS systems, or similar programs is an asset
- Loader and/or heavy equipment operating experience is considered a strong asset
- Experience working in a gravel yard, disposal facility, or industrial yard environment is preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with weights, tickets, and transactions
- Basic math and computer skills required
- Ability to work both indoors in a scale house environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team

Pay: $18.25-$22.00 per hour
