Position Summary
This youth position supports Lethbridge County's participation in the regional waste management commission through audit support, agricultural waste assessment, and general administrative duties. The student will help collect and organize information that supports environmental protection by improving waste reduction and diversion practices, including rural and agricultural waste streams such as ag plastics and on-farm waste disposal practices.
Work may take place at municipal facilities and partner sites across the region, supporting municipal-level service delivery in a rural area. The role builds practical technology and digital skills through spreadsheet work, records management, reporting support, and other digital tools.
Term Contract Dates: tentatively July 6 - August 28, 2026 (35 hours per week)
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Audit & Field Support:
· Assist with waste and diversion audits and other related site activities, as trained.
· Help record observations and basic information during site visits.
2. Agricultural Waste Support
· Help gather and organize information on agricultural waste topics, including ag plastics and disposal practices such as burning.
· Support the preparation of simple summaries of observations and reported data to inform outreach and program planning.
3. Administrative Support
· Provide general administrative support including document organization, meeting notes, scheduling support, and correspondence support.
· Maintain tracking lists, templates, and files required for program work.
4. Technology & Digital Skills
· Enter and organize information using spreadsheets and shared digital folders.
· Support basic reporting and presentation of information for staff review, including tables, simple charts, and brief summaries.
· Use digital forms and tools where applicable to collect consistent, accurate information.
5. Safety, Communication & Team Participation
· Follow all safety procedures and site rules; wear required PPE during site visits.
· Communicate professionally with supervisors and partners; follow directions and ask questions as needed.
· Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a willingness to learn.
Education/Training/Skills Required
The ideal candidate will also have:
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Comfortable using digital tools such as spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets), shared folders, and digital forms.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team.
· Interest in environmental programs, waste management, or agricultural practices is an asset.
· Prior experience in an office or administrative setting is an asset but not required.
· Must have a minimum of a Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
· A satisfactory 5-year driver’s abstract required.
· Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
