About La Coccinelle Preschool and Daycare
La Coccinelle Preschool and Daycare is a French language early childhood education program based on teaching, nurturing and balancing the “whole” child. We value and foster cognitive, emotional, and social as well as fine and gross motor development. We believe that choice and free play is also very important. Children have a natural impulse to explore and create. At La Coccinelle we want to empower children and offer positive learning development through a variety of different “guided” play opportunities. La Coccinelle’s main goal is to assist children through their development as a “whole child.” In September 2026, La Cocinelle will be expanding its offerings to include a French language daycare program
Make Your Mark!
This first year of employment will be unique in that the successful candidate will be leading the newly opened Daycare side of La Coccinelle Preschool and Daycare. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for the care of children aged 3-5 while they transition between the Preschool and Daycare portions of the program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate, direct and shape the future of La Coccinelle’s Daycare program.
Type: Annual renewable 10-month full-time contracts (i.e., summers off)
Start Date: Monday August 24, 2026
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm. The daily schedule will include an hour paid lunch and an hour of administrative time. This first year, the Lead Daycare Teacher will work closely with the Director to help organize and plan for the new daycare program. The successful candidate will be present for parent information night on August 27, and at an annual open house for prospective students in January.
Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop, plan, and implement a developmentally appropriate French immersion daycare program.
- Plan and execute activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, creative, and social needs of students.
- Ensure classroom equipment is clean, well-maintained, and safe.
- Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Teacher(s) to plan monthly schedules, including culturally appropriate programs and literacy concepts.
- Support Director in training Assistant staff members.
- Be prepared to lead daily outdoor activities in all weather conditions.
- Be knowledgeable about emergency procedures.
Student Supervision and Development:
- Ensure students are supervised at all times and ratios are met.
- Provide various experiences and activities, such as songs, games, and storytelling.
- Provide age appropriate, daily outdoor physical activities.
- Build students' self-esteem and comfort them as needed.
- Ensure children’s daily rest time is accommodated and supervised.
- Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
- Implement positive discipline in accordance with the Preschool’s Child Discipline Policy.
- Communicate effectively with children.
- Monitor each child's progress and provide feedback to the parents.
- Integrate special needs children positively and respectfully.
- Lead the daycare whenever the Director is absent.
Parent Communication:
- Discuss student development with parents as necessary.
- Address identified problems and needs with professionals.
- Promote literacy and early education.
- Keep parents informed of monthly programming and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and include only concerned parties when discussing children’s progress.
Program Administration:
- Work with the Director in maintaining accurate and confidential student files and administrative records.
- Participate in orientation meetings, workshops and staff training.
- Plan and execute class programs, field trips, and special events.
- Communicate with the Director when additional classroom materials are needed.
- Correspond with the Province and Regulators.
- Report attendance and conduct parent/teacher interviews.
- Ensure compliance with the Child Care Licensing Act.
Professional Development:
- Set short- and long-term professional development goals with the Director annually.
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and coursework.
- Ensure all legal certification requirements are met under the Child Care Licensing Act.
Communication:
- Report safety or regulatory shortcomings to the Director immediately.
- Communicate challenges, opportunities, or deficiencies to the Director.
- Inform the Director and Chair or Vice-Chair of planned absences and find parent volunteers to cover absences.
- Pass on information, concerns, and requests from parents to the Director.
- Refer parents to communicate directly with the appropriate Board member or Director when necessary.
Leadership and Mentorship:
- Foster a positive working relationship with the Director and Assistant Teacher(s).
- Share daily program plans and outline performance expectations.
- Provide feedback on professional development.
- Hold regular meetings with the Director and Assistant Teacher(s) to discuss lesson plans and activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Level 3 Early Childhood Educator Certificate.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in early childhood education, with a focus on French language instruction.
- Language Skills: Fluency in French (spoken and written), competency in English is required.
- Software Skills: Microsoft office and Zoom
- Leadership: Proven leadership and management skills.
- Passion: A genuine passion for working with young children and fostering their development.
