Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Places Architectural team is seeking a Senior Architectural Technologist to join our team. This position will be based out of the Kitchener studio, with remote/hybrid work options permitted. This position is to fill an existing position within the team.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, building engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, and project/asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Commercial, Public Safety and Justice, Transportation, Municipal Government, Defense, and Educational sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform as a Senior Architectural Technologist.

Under the direction of AECOM Project Managers and Architectural Discipline Leads, lead the technical development and production of comprehensive construction documentation through all phases of project delivery across multiple projects.

Work with Architectural Discipline Leads during all stages of document production to ensure design intent is maintained.

Assist in the development and refinement of construction details, with a focus on constructability, durability, and established building science principles.

Review construction documentation packages for technical accuracy and conformance with local building standards and codes.

Coordinate with AECOM specification writers to ensure construction document consistency across technical drawings and specification packages.

Coordinate with internal AECOM disciplines (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Communications, Civil, Landscape, Sustainability) and external sub-consultants throughout all phases of project delivery.

Support Architectural Discipline Leads in Construction Contract Administration phase activities, such as responding to RFIs, reviewing contractor submittals, managing contract admin documentation logs, preparing supplemental instructions, change documentation, and assisting with general review.

Participate in meetings and work closely with AECOM Project Managers and Architectural Discipline Leads and project team members throughout project development.

Provide support and mentorship to intermediate/junior team members.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
-
HS + six (6) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Extensive familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and National Building Code. Familiarity with the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings considered an asset.

Extensive proficiency with Revit and BIM workflows, AutoCAD, and MS Office (Word, Excel), with Bluebeam Revu Studio proficiency considered an asset.

Extensive technical knowledge of building systems, construction detailing and sequencing, and building science principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
University degree or College diploma in Architecture with seven to ten (7-10) years of relevant experience with complex building types.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced project delivery environment with a multi-disciplinary, in-house consultant team.

Experience in leading construction documentation production with the use of a BIM management system such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).

Familiarity with standard CCDC contract types, including CCDC 2 and CCDC 5B. Familiarity with other forms of CCDC contract considered an asset.

Ability to independently manage construction contract administration activities.

Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
