JWK Utilities & Site Services Ltd. is a utilities and site services contractor that has worked in the Ottawa area for over 21 years. Our office and warehouse is located outside the village of Carp, ON. We are looking for a hard-working, dedicated, and self-motivated individual to work on-site and assist with a variety of tasks across our operations.
Site preparation & cleanup
- Clearing debris, sweeping, raking, and general housekeeping
- Setting up and taking down temporary fencing, barriers, and signage
- Disposing of waste and managing bins
Excavation & groundwork
- Hand digging, trenching, and backfilling around utilities
- Compacting soil and granular material
- Assisting with grading and levelling
Material handling
- Loading/unloading trucks and equipment
- Moving materials around site by hand, wheelbarrow, or skid steer
- Staging pipe, conduit, rebar, and other materials for crews
Assisting trades
- Holding, carrying, and passing tools and materials to operators, pipe layers, and electricians
- Mixing and placing concrete
- Cutting and prepping materials as directed
Traffic control & safety
- Flagging traffic around active work zones
- Setting up and maintaining cones, signs, and barriers
- Monitoring exclusion zones around equipment
Underground utilities
- Assisting with pipe laying and bedding
- Lowering materials into trenches
- Maintaining shoring and trench boxes
- Locating and exposing existing buried services by hand
General
- Operating small equipment (plate compactor, jumping jack, hand tamper)
- Fuelling and doing basic maintenance checks on equipment
- Following daily tailgate safety meetings and site-specific safety plans
Must-haves
- Steel-toed CSA-approved footwear
- Ability to perform heavy physical labour (lifting, digging, carrying)
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather — heat, cold, rain
- Reliable transportation to get to site or the yard
- Ability to take and follow direction from a foreman
- Basic understanding of site safety (no working alone near excavations, PPE, etc.)
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
