Overview
Open Arms Resource Centre is seeking an Intensive Case Worker to join our Housing Services Program. In this role, you will support individuals experiencing homelessness by providing intensive, individualized case management, helping them access resources, and working toward stable housing outcomes.
You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment while helping clients navigate complex life situations and build independence.
Job Specifics
Job Type: Full-time, In-Person, 40 hours/Week
Location: Kentville, NS
Responsibilities
Client Support & Case Management
- Provide intensive, individualized case management support to individuals exiting homelessness
- Maintain an active caseload of no more than 1:10 mid to high acuity individuals
- Develop individualized, strength based recovery and housing plans with clients
- Meet regularly with clients to monitor progress, adjust plans, and support goal achievement
Housing & Community Integration
- Support clients to obtain and maintain permanent housing
- Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords, service providers, and community agencies
- Facilitate access to community resources and supports based on identified needs
- Support client engagement in the community and participation in appointments as required
Crisis Support & Advocacy
- Respond to and support clients during crisis situations
- Provide timely advocacy to address barriers impacting housing stability and wellbeing
Collaboration & Communication
- Maintain timely and appropriate communication with service agencies supporting clients
- Attend team meetings and contribute to coordinated service delivery
- Represent the program and Open Arms Resource Centre professionally in the community
Documentation & Accountability
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case documentation
- Complete required assessments in accordance with program standards
- Adhere to all program policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
Professional Practice
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with team members to support positive service outcomes
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all aspects of the role
Team & Organizational Support
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and case conferences
- Communicate regularly with the Housing Programs Manager
- Follow organizational policies, procedures, and training requirements
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field OR college diploma with equivalent experience
- Minimum two years’ experience working with individuals at risk or experiencing complex barriers
- Solid understanding of housing first and harm reduction principles
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively in dynamic and crisis situations
- Ability to work respectfully, non-judgmentally, and supportively using trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to employment

Pay: $26.00-$28.00 per hour
