Job Summary: The Grade 7-8 Teacher in a BC First Nations Community is responsible for providing
quality education to students in grades 7 and 8, while incorporating First Nations culture, values,
and traditions into the curriculum. This position involves creating a safe and inclusive learning
environment that promotes academic achievement, cultural understanding, and personal growth.
The Grade 7-8 Teacher collaborates with colleagues, community members, and parents to support
the holistic development of students and foster a strong connection to their First Nations heritage.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the BC curriculum and
incorporate First Nations culture, history, and perspectives.
2. Create a supportive and culturally responsive learning environment that values and respects
the unique identities and experiences of First Nations students.
3. Teach a range of subjects, including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and
cultural studies, using instructional strategies that cater to diverse learning styles.
4. Integrate First Nations knowledge and perspectives into subject areas to enhance students'
understanding and appreciation of their heritage.
5. Utilize appropriate assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction
accordingly.
6. Provide individualized support and guidance to students, addressing their academic, social,
and emotional needs.
7. Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary activities and projects that promote
cross-curricular learning and cultural understanding.
8. Incorporate technology and other resources effectively to enhance teaching and learning
experiences.
9. Involve parents, guardians, and community members in the education process through
regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and community events.
10. Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model while
promoting self-esteem and cultural pride.
