- Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Sales Associate is responsible for providing prompt and efficient service to customers in the store. They assist customers with locating products, related items that best suit their needs, and provide information on product warranty and the applicable return process. The Sales Associate is cross trained in Cash & Customer Service and various departments to support their team and customers during the shift. They are also responsible for staying current with trends in the industry and completing general housekeeping of shelves and work areas in their department.
TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
- Greet customers within thirty seconds of entering the store/department and communicate in a welcoming and professional manner.
- Operate all point-of-sale equipment, including the cash register, with sufficient speed and accuracy.
- Perform Customer Service duties and adhere to store policy and best practices when attending to customers and performing returns and refunds
- Ensure customers have had a positive shopping experience; take steps to rectify if they haven’t.
- Maintain price information (flyers, in-store promotions, etc.) for reference when customer price inquiries arise.
- Assist customers in locating merchandise in the store or on homehardware.ca.
- Process special orders for non-stock or out-of- stock items available from Home Hardware
- Develop a knowledge of extended aisle products that are available to our store from suppliers that we currently buy from to be able to complete direct special orders
- Accurately complete Special Order Request forms and submit to the Inventory Clerk to attain the information required to complete the direct special order sale.
- Determine customer’s needs by asking open-ended questions and assist them in comparing merchandise.
- Communicate product knowledge (including features, benefits, warranty, and return process) to the customer as appropriate
- Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project.
- Resolve customer complaints to the best of your ability; always attempt to solve problems on the spot before escalating to supervisor/manager
- Make note of repeat customer requests for product we don’t stock and communicate this to your direct manager.
- Assist customers with carrying out large or heavy items.
- Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, and restocking shelves.
- Change prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
- Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions and other special events.
- Remove sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events.
- Always take appropriate safety precautions when cutting wire, rope, chain, pipe and tubing, or making keys etc., and try to minimize waste.
- Keep stock in the storage area neat, clean, and orderly.
- Ensure aisles are kept free from obstructions.
- Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in taking annual inventory counts.
- Operate computer and POS software to aid in accomplishing department needs.
- Answer the phone, pages, and radio promptly to assist customers and co-workers with price checks and other needs as they arise.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Complete cross-training for other departments and assist other departmental needs as they arise (break coverage, call-ins, etc.).
- Understand and abide by all company policies, procedures, and our Path to Excellence values.
- Work on special projects and additional duties that align with this job description as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
- Ability to read and comprehend written and printed materials, as well as information presented in numerical form.
- Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
- Prior retail experience is considered an asset.
- Prior knowledge of and/or experience in trades (electrical, plumbing, heating, etc.) is considered an asset.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds at a time

- Reports directly to the Store Owner/Manager and Assistant Store Manager
