About the role
As a member of the Production Team and reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Machine Operator is responsible for converting the required orders given to them on a daily basis in a safe and efficient manner with a focus on producing a product of superior quality within the allotted time and schedule.
What you'll do
This position will setup, maintain, and operate a variety of converting machines. The Machine Operator will ensure the efficient running of their machine. Being a team player is essential since all tasks will require close collaboration with co-workers. The goal will be to ensure production procedures are carried out in an efficient and accurate manner, with fine attention to detail, maximizing product yield and optimizing production cost.
The Machine Operator will initially operate one of Muir Tapes & Adhesives Slitter Machines. However, once properly trained, the Machine Operator may have the opportunity to rotate to other lamination & Die Cutting Machines.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
Converting Orders:
- Review and scan the production ticket along with the product # and Lot# and set up the machine according to the settings listed in the run parameters listed on the HMI or the Trial Results memo
- Review all notes and any related NCRs that appear on the HMI screen
- Confirm & record start size of material being used
- Verify correct material is being used and gather approval/double check
- Verify the dimensions of the First Off and ensure they meet the customers required dimensions, tolerances, as well as a visual inspection to ensure the quality requirements are met, using a variety of tools including but not limited to calipers, micrometers and tape measures; routinely verify that the product continues to meet specs throughout the run, and retrieve last off samples as required
- Use the maintenance software to report any machine concerns
- Machine operator is responsible for accurately recording the time & materials needed to complete the production ticket, quantity converted, and any waste accumulated during the production process, material left over to be returned to inventory, including any notable concerns or observations that may impact the production run
- Print labels, pack the product as per requirements and deliver finished product to Inventory Control staging area
- Operate hand trucks and other lifting equipment
Machine Maintenance:
- The Machine Operator is responsible for the completion of the daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspection checklist
- The Operator will report any anomalies discovered during the inspection process or while operating the machine to his/her supervisor immediately
- The Operator may be asked to do minor repairs to the machine as required
Organization and Other Responsibilities:
- Be an active participate in team meetings when required
- Suggest and pursue production improvements to enhance quality and run times
- Clean and maintain workstations and surrounding work areas in accordance with agreed upon 5S Standards
Position Requirements:
- Ability to understand product drawings & tolerances and follow work instructions
- Be able to perform mathematical calculations to Grade 12 level (minimum)
- Mechanically inclined – able to understand how machines work and make adjustments if required
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot basic production issues
- Understand and work to automotive industry quality standards and tolerances
- Be exceptionally well organized with an acute attention to detail
- Accurately complete paperwork and enter information into the operating system
- Must be a team player and collaborate and assist colleagues as needed
Preferred Requirements:
Minimum Grade 12, College or University Technical degree is an advantage
Must be willing to work Monday to Friday 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM, open to overtime if required to meet customer needs
The pay range for this role is:
22 - 22 CAD per hour(MTA (HQ) - Oakville)
