The Event & Outreach Support role is the energetic bridge between our organization and the Vernon community. This 30-hour-per-week position is designed for a "community builder" who can shift seamlessly from retail management and site care to high-level public engagement. You will not only capture the story of our Centre through testimonials but also actively increase our local visibility through digital engagement and physical presence at community events.
Logistics
- Term: June 1 – August 2, 2026 (9 Weeks) - flexible dates, can begin as late as June 29
- Commitment: 30 hours / week
- Compensation: $18.25 / hour
Primary Responsibilities
1. Bookstore & Centre Operations
- Retail Shift: Thursdays on-site. Manage sales, customer service, and inventory via Square.
- Saturday Maintenance: Dedicated cleaning of the Centre every Saturday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM to ensure the space is pristine for Sunday services.
- Facility Care: Lead the annual Spring Cleaning tasks and maintain a welcoming, organized environment throughout the week.
2. Community Outreach & "The Vernon Presence"
- Member Testimonials: Schedule and conduct interviews with members. Draft 1–2 "Member Spotlight" paragraphs per week based on these interviews for the newsletter/social media.
- Active Outreach: Research and visit potential partner organizations and schools.
- Local Visibility: Manage the printing and distribution of posters. (Coordinate with the Assistant Manager if a vehicle is needed for travel outside downtown Vernon).
- Market Presence: (Suggested addition) Represent the Centre at the Vernon Farmers Market or other local pop-up events to distribute info and engage with the public.
3. Event Execution & Media Support
- Event Hosting: Act as a primary greeter; verify and update membership records at the door.
- Logistics: Assist with setup and cleanup for all events, including dedicated support for the Youth Summer Camp (two half-days per week in July).
- Sunday A/V: Lead Sunday morning A/V operations twice per month (9:45 AM – 11:30 AM).
- Digital Asset Management: Capture photos/videos (with guest consent) and upload them to Google Drive for the Social Media Manager.
4. Digital & Admin Support (To fill the 30-hour quota)
- Community Calendar Management: Ensure all Centre events are submitted to local Vernon community calendars (online/newspaper).
- Newsletter Assistance: Assist Jasmine in gathering content or formatting sections of the weekly community email.
- Database Hygiene: Use downtime to ensure the membership contact list in Google Sheets is accurate and up-to-date.
Pay: $18.25 per hour
