About the Role
Brycon is currently seeking a Junior Civil Engineer to join our team. This role will play a key part in supporting the successful execution of mid-to-large-size heavy civil construction projects. The Junior Civil Engineer will be involved in the entire life cycle of a variety of projects – from the tender/estimating phase to project execution and closeout. The role is primarily office based but requires frequent visits to project sites.
Key Responsibilities
· Quantities & Estimating: Perform material quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and tender preparation support for various projects.
· Project Coordination: Liaise with senior project managers, field staff, subcontractors, consultants and clients to ensure project compliance, schedule and cost goals are met.
· Construction Management: Conduct routine field reviews and on-site monitoring of construction to ensure work complies with project specifications and applicable local standards (Municipal, Provincial, Federal).
· Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed notes of construction activities, calculations, and reports for staff and/or clients.
· Communication: Support and communicate with senior management, office staff, project managers and field personnel.
· Project Preparation: Assist in preparing models from design drawings, details, and layout for roads, highways and municipal infrastructure networks using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Qualifications & Skills
· Education: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Applicants currently attending university but scheduled to graduate soon are encouraged to apply (start date can be tailored to accommodate graduation for the right applicant).
· Credentials: Registered or eligible for Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status with Engineers Nova Scotia.
· Technical Skills: Clear technical writing and experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project). Familiarity with PlanSwift takeoff software or B2W Estimating software would be considered an asset but is not required.
· Problem Solving: Creative problem solving to address the challenges that come with changing site conditions, data collection and analysis.
· Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to ensure accurate/precise measurements and reports.
· Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication to convey information clearly.
· Teamwork and Leadership: Ability to work effectively as part of a team; strong collaboration is required as part of the daily routine.
Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license for site visits.
