Youth Engagement Ambassador (Volunteer Position)
Reports to: Nichola Nonis, Director of Operations
Role Overview:
We are seeking post-secondary students or graduates (between 18 years-30 years) with an interest in research, advocacy, and community engagement to support the Brain Injury Association of Peel & Halton (BIAPH). Volunteers must commit to at least an 8-month term (September to April) or a 1-year term. As a member of our team, volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to initiates in research, knowledge translation, content creation, fundraising, and donor relations - all in support of acquired brain injury (ABI) survivors, caregivers, and families.
As a Youth Engagement Ambassador, you can specialize in either of the
following teams:
- Research & Education
- Community Engagement
Our volunteer roles require a commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week, plus 1-2 meetings per month. Your volunteer hours will be recorded through timesheets to be submitted each month for the duration of your term with us.

Research & Education
- Researching topics related to ABI prevention, diagnosis, and treatment
- Creating accessible, informative, and visually engaging infographics
- Developing content for our MindMatters blog and posting on a regular basis
- Creating research toolkits, information packages, Brain Injury Awareness materials, and other resources for our staff and service users
Qualifications:
- Strong written communication skills
- Strong research skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects
- Familiar with Microsoft and Google Suites + Canva, Pages, etc.
- Background in Psychology, Neuroscience, Health Sciences, Biology, or a related field

These roles are fully remote. There is no expectation that volunteers will work on-site at any time, and work can be conducted from anywhere in Canada.

Community Engagement
- Reaching out to potential donors via phone, email, and networking sites
- Encouraging donations to BIAPH's programs and services
- Attending fundraising events and supporting BIAPH staff on-site as necessary
- Developing social media content and promotional materials
Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service and/or sales
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong professionalism and excellent email etiquette
- Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Creativity and problem-solving skills
This team has remote and hybrid opportunities available. Volunteers who would like to help with events should have reliable access to transportation in the Peel/Halton region, as well as proof of COVID-19 immunization(s).
