POSITION TITLE Accounts Payable Clerk – Full-Time
SUPERVISOR Finance Manager
SALARY RANGE Job Class III ($65,393.12 - $77,255.36 July 1, 2026 Rates)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented professional to work within our Finance Department.
The successful candidate will possess:
- demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- strong organizational skills, accuracy in financial data entry, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- demonstrative proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, and experience working with computerized accounting systems.
- the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment while working with sensitive financial information.
- strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, vendors, external agencies, and members of the public.
- the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
ASSETS:
- experience in accounts payable, accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive, review, and process all accounts payable invoices in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and established policies and procedures.
- Ensure all approved invoices are accurately entered into accounts payable software for payment processing
- Reconcile statements of account, process any applicable credits, and the understanding to triage invoices requiring expedited payment to avoid late payment penalties and interest charges.
- Prepare year-end outstanding accounts payables for financial reporting purposes.
- Respond to and follow up on vendor and account inquiries.
- Manage entries and applicable forms for out-of-province purchases.
- Maintain capital asset and inventory records.
- Maintain current knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with all members of the Finance Team, Police Service, vendors, and external agencies.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
