The Opportunity:
First Work is looking for an individual to take on the role of the Social Media Coordinator. The individual will be responsible for assisting in developing, implementing and monitoring First Work’s social media strategy in order to increase brand awareness and program participation.
The successful applicant will demonstrate sound judgment, be flexible and willing to learn and adapt to different work assignments in a team setting.
Eligibility: This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To qualify, applicants must be
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Please note: International students are not eligible for this opportunity.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Content Creation and Management
- Develop and maintain a social media calendar, including notable external and internal dates.
- Create and publish consistent, meaningful content including images and videos on all platforms that excites our community to take action and build meaningful connections.
- Coordinate and attend company events to capture content and post on social media platforms.
- Implement other strategies to maintain First Work & Aspire’s social media presence.
- Ad hoc tasks as assigned.
2. Strategy Development
- Contributes to development and implementation of the social media strategy in accordance with First Work’s strategic plan, brand, industry best practices, and emerging trends to engage stakeholders by directly supporting the Communications team.
- Stay updated on industry trends, social media best practices, and emerging platforms to recommend new strategies.
3. Community Engagement
- Monitor social media channels for mentions, comments, and messages, and respond in a timely and professional manner.
- Foster a positive and authentic online community by engaging with followers, addressing concerns, and fostering a sense of community.
4. Collaboration and Thought Leadership
- Collaborate with other divisions to gather content, ensure consistency, and align social media efforts with overall marketing initiatives.
- Supports First Work’s endeavours by developing, writing, and contributing to written pieces for pitching, blog purposes, or member communications.
5. Analytics and Reporting
- Analyze social media metrics and provide regular reports to evaluate the effectiveness of social media efforts.
- Prepare reports on our social media marketing efforts.

- Personal or professional experience is preferred (co-op, projects, volunteer, etc).
- Experience in writing, editing, and publishing written and visual content.
- Have excellent customer services skills
- Have strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task, in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint), Zoom, Canva, and Adobe are considered assets.
