Position Overview
Pollin Fertility is currently seeking a Phlebotomist / Laboratory Technician to join our Ottawa clinical team.
This role plays a vital part in supporting fertility diagnostics and patient monitoring through accurate sample collection, laboratory testing, and meticulous quality control. The successful candidate will contribute directly to patient care by ensuring laboratory processes are performed with precision, professionalism, and compassion.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy and collect patient samples including blood, urine, and other specimens
- Process and prepare samples for laboratory analysis in accordance with established protocols
- Perform laboratory testing related to fertility diagnostics, including hormone assays and other specialized tests
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of results
- Follow laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory and accreditation standards
- Accurately document laboratory results and patient data within electronic medical record systems
- Prepare specimens and manifests for courier transport to Dynacare
- Identify, document, and escalate laboratory errors or discrepancies to the Laboratory Director or Supervisor
- Maintain familiarity with updated laboratory procedures and policies through regular review of laboratory manuals
- Participate in clinic safety programs and maintain up-to-date quality assurance documentation
- Support a collaborative and respectful workplace culture
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Diploma in Phlebotomy or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, or BSc in Biology or related field
- MLPAO certification preferred
- Documented training in phlebotomy
- Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience performing phlebotomy (fertility clinic experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of patient identification procedures and specimen handling protocols
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to blood collection and specimen handling
- Demonstrated ability to apply rigorous quality control procedures
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Technical Experience (Preferred):
- Hands-on experience with Roche e411 / e402 or comparable fertility immunoassay platforms
- Experience performing:
- Sample centrifugation and loading
- Daily quality control procedures
- QC flag review and escalation
- Reviewing results prior to final reporting
- Strong proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, and digital documentation systems

Working Conditions
- Clinic operates 7 days per week
- Clinic hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday with rotational weekends and holidays as required
