Position Summary
The Senior Dispatcher & Planner is responsible for the daily planning and coordination of all loads, trucks, and trailers to ensure efficient fleet utilization, on-time service, and maximum profitability. This role plays a key part in optimizing operations, maintaining strong customer relationships, securing backhaul opportunities, and ensuring seamless communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and dispatch all loads, trucks, and trailers on a daily basis to maximize operational efficiency and equipment utilization.
- Monitor and manage driver schedules, available equipment, and load requirements to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries.
- Identify and secure profitable backhaul opportunities to minimize empty miles and improve fleet productivity.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers, brokers, and carriers to increase freight opportunities and customer retention.
- Negotiate rates and service requirements with customers and freight partners when required.
- Proactively communicate with drivers, customers, and internal departments regarding load status, delays, and operational issues.
- Monitor market conditions and freight availability to maximize revenue opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and customer service standards.
- Track key performance indicators, including equipment utilization, empty miles, on-time performance, and revenue generation.
- Assist management in developing operational strategies to improve efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation dispatching, load planning, or fleet operations.
- Strong knowledge of truckload transportation, routing, and capacity planning.
- Proven ability to source and secure backhaul freight.
- Excellent customer relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with TMS systems, load boards, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions under pressure.
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
Experience:
- Planner: 3 years (preferred)
- Fleet Manager: 3 years (preferred)
