Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Full-Time Tanning Associate. Experience is an asset, but we're willing to train the right person.
Responsibilities
- Prepare hides, capes, and skins for the tanning process.
- Flesh, turn, split, salt, and properly preserve hides according to industry standards.
- Operate and maintain tanning equipment, drums, and related tools.
- Apply tanning chemicals and treatments while following safety procedures.
- Inspect hides for quality and identify any issues requiring corrective action.
- Assist with washing, stretching, drying, and finishing of tanned hides.
- Maintain accurate records of customer orders and production status.
- Package and prepare completed hides for pickup or shipping.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with workplace safety standards.
- Assist with receiving, tagging, and inventorying incoming specimens.
- Work collaboratively with taxidermists and production staff to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Help maintain tanning supplies, chemicals, and shop inventory.
- Perform general shop duties as required.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Comfortable handling animal hides and working with tanning chemicals.
- Ability to lift and carry up a minimum of 80 lbs.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in taxidermy, tanning, leatherwork, agriculture, meat processing, or manufacturing is an asset but not required.
- Willingness to learn a specialized trade and develop new skills.
