The Role:
Are you a patient focused Lab Technician with Monitors experience and excellent written and communication skills?
KMH Cardiology Centres Inc. is growing, and we are recruiting for a full-time Lab Technician/Monitors for our clinics in North York and Markham.
This role is primarily focused on ambulatory monitors’ installation and downloads. The role also performs resting 12-Lead electrocardiographic procedures independently to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The Accountabilities:
The key accountabilities of the Lab Technician/Monitors role are:
- Installs ambulatory monitors (Holter and blood pressure) and downloads the recorded data
- Obtains high quality resting 12-Lead electrocardiogram recordings and provides the physician with a tracing of the patient's ECG and blood pressure measurements
- Displays strong arrhythmia recognition skills
- Applies independent judgment and critical thinking during testing to ensure all appropriate data is captured
- Conducts tests in accordance with the CSCT and KMH's protocols, policies, and procedures
- Instructs and aids patients on ambulatory procedures and other equipment, using proper equipment fitting to ensure patient comfort and safety
- Refers to ECG Technologists, Team Leads, supervising physicians, and internal on-site specialists for QA and procedural advice on abnormal studies
- Maintains clean, orderly, and well-stocked examination rooms, ensuring all equipment is properly supplied, operational, and well maintained before, during, and after each shift, and assists in maintaining a current inventory of routine supplies
- Coordinates patient care throughout appointments, including check-in, prepping, escorting to and preparing exam/treatment rooms, answering questions, providing post-appointment service, monitoring the waiting room, and facilitating patient flow
- Interviews patients and acquires the required past medical history
- Maintains the electronic medical record, including the patient chart, and performs supporting tasks such as uploading, scanning, faxing, and referrals
- Responds to patient and general enquiries by phone and in person in a helpful, respectful, courteous, and empathetic manner
- Works with the cross-functional team and other KMH staff, including assisting ECG Technologists in daily operations, to support patient care and foster a collegial, respectful clinic environment
- Ensures patient confidentiality
- Attends team meetings and updates
Minimum qualifications:
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program
- Lab Technician (certified)
The Requirements
- ECG and Ambulatory Monitors experience is an asset
- Clinic and medical administration experience is an asset
- Proven ability to work proficiently in a busy, fast-paced specialist clinic environment
- Self-directed and detail oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to multitask, establish priorities, and achieve objectives with minimal supervision
- BLS
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good telephone etiquette
- Proficiency in technology, including MS Office and EMR systems experience
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to deal with sensitive information with a high degree of diplomacy
- Team orientation
- The ability to provide coverage at both KMH North York and KMH Markham
Our team is passionate about healthcare and includes clinical, clinical support and business roles with an entrepreneurial approach.This is a full-time role scheduled for 5 days and 37.5 hours per week (between Monday-Friday) during the hours of 8.00 a.m.-4.00/4.30 p.m. Saturday’s are required on rotation with the team.
This position reports to the Technical Manager: ECG.
