Summary of duties and responsibilities:
The Employment Support Staff for the Employment Works program at Operation Come
Home will be responsible for all employment/social support aspects of the Initiative. The
goal of the project is to engage youth ages 16-29 with employment activities designed to
assist them in finding and maintaining a career of their choice. The staff will work directly
with clients of the centre both in groups and or on an individual basis. The staff will perform
the supports required in order for registered youth to be successful.
Reporting Relationship:
This position reports on an interim basis to Meredith Lyman, Employment Coordinator.
Hours:
The hours of work for this position are 8 hours per day, which are to be worked during Operation Come Home’s core open hours of 8am-4pm.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Employment Support Staff
· Interview potential participants for Employment Works programs.
· Determine eligibility based on one or more interview (s).
· Orient the participants to the program and ensure the participants are provided with the terms, conditions and expectations.
· Ensure that the outcomes according to the contract are met on a quarterly/annual basis.
· Engage, train and support the youth on all aspects of the curriculum.
· Provide supports to youth in job exploration, identification of skills, interests, job search, resume and cover letter preparation, cold calling, contacting employers, interviewing, workplace assessments and matching, conflict resolution, self-marketing and sales and instruction on how to approach and attract employers.
· Perform job development duties to ensure that youth have a job within 4-6 weeks of the intervention.
· Provide technical assistance for employer search.
· Provide youth with group and individual employment supports that will facilitate job search, placement and maintenance.
· Attend job interviews with participants.
· Meet with employers to discuss the wage subsidy opportunities (generic and job specific) job development.
· Meet with youth weekly to ensure that their employment action/goal plan has been fulfilled.
· Complete cold calls and other outreach activities with employers to build relationships and develop job opportunities for youth clients
· Completing quarterly reports and keeping statistics up to date at all times
· Present Employment Works presentations to community partners
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend staff meetings
- Assist with regular office activities aimed at ensuring OCH remains a clean, safe and healthy workspace for staff and clients
- Supporting other programs within Operation Come Home as required
- Submit monthly timesheets and other required documentation by the deadlines provided
- Other duties that may be assigned to meet the objectives of the program
Qualifications:
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field, such as, social services
- Two year’s experience working in a social service setting with a vulnerable population
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- A vulnerable Sector police check
- Bilingualism in French and English an asset
Pay: $50,000.00-$53,000.00 per year
