Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Summer Student - Shop Hand to join our team. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in warehouse operations, general labour and housekeeping support across the manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, reliable, and physically capable of performing various manual tasks in a dynamic environment. This paid summer position (2 months) provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical skills in warehouse distribution, construction, and equipment operation while supporting our daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the shop, yard, Quonset, and work areas.
- Sweep, clean, and organize shop floors and workstations.
- Empty garbage and recycling throughout the facility.
- Clean and organize storage areas, maintenance rooms, and equipment.
- Wash interior and exterior windows, overhead doors, and common areas.
- Assist with painting safety lines, designated work areas, and facility touch-ups.
- Organize inventory, hardware, nuts and bolts, small parts, and storage bins.
- Label shelving, parts bins, and storage locations as required.
- Assist with inventory counts and stock organization.
- Refill shop supplies such as floor dry, ice melt, and other consumables.
- Support pallet racking installation, relocation, and warehouse organization.
- Assist with organizing the biodome, Quonset, red cage, and other storage locations.
- Perform general yard maintenance, cleanup, and material organization.
- Remove rocks and debris from parking lots and outdoor work areas (equipment operated only if trained and authorized).
- Assist departments with basic assembly or production support tasks, such as throttle joint assembly, packaging, or organizing components.
- Clean and maintain shop equipment, including vacuums and other small equipment.
- Assist maintenance personnel with shop projects and preventative maintenance activities.
- Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Reliable with a strong work ethic.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Able to follow instructions and work independently.
- Comfortable performing physical labour in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Steel-toed safety boots required.
- Previous shop or labour experience is considered an asset but is not required.
- Must be a current student during the summer period and able to commit to the internship schedule
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and carrying.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company safety policies
