Our day program provides specific life skills, recreation and leisure activities, as well as community access to people with developmental and physical disabilities. The Community Support Worker is responsible for introducing and implementing ideas and activities that allow the clients in the day program to complete tasks independently achieve the greatest degree of independence. The role is responsible for assisting individuals with their day to day life skills; to include social, leisure, health, and fitness.
This temporary schedule will be Monday to Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm.
Responsibilities
- Develops and participates in program activities and schedules with participants such as, personal/social development classes, recreation and leisure activities or community access and awareness, life skills training to include money management, bus training, and communications systems.
- Supports personal care requirements of individuals, as set out in care plan.
- Monitors health matters, to include; illness, seizure activity, and allergies.
- Ensures the safety of all participants in the program when lifting, transferring and the loading of wheelchairs on and off the vans.
- Participate in all activities with participants including swimming.
Qualifications
- Community Support Worker Certificate, Health Care Worker Certificate or equivalent certification in a relevant field preferred.
- 3-6 months prior job experience , working with people with developmental and physical disabilities
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including assisting individuals in wheelchairs
- Valid BC Class 4 Driver's License
- First Aid and CPR
- Negative TB test results
- Criminal Record Check
- Food Safe Certification
