As a member of the Hockey Operations department, the Assistant Coach will play a critical and integral role in the success of the Regina Pats. This unique position will work directly with the Head Coach and other Hockey Operations staff on a daily basis to develop and maintain a consistent and successful hockey team that challenges for a WHL Championship each season, develops players, and produces an entertaining product on the ice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in developing game plans, tactics and strategies, including but not limited to offensive and defensive systems as well as special teams play.
- Assist the Head Coach in coordinating practice plans.
- Assist the Head Coach in developing team strategies and tactics for the season and for each specific opponent.
- Responsible for running either the Power Play or Penalty Kill special teams unit as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Pre-scout and code 2 to 3 of the most recent games for each upcoming opponent and present video to the Regina Pats players of opponent’s strengths, weaknesses, systems and strategies.
- Conduct post-game review and analysis of each Regina Pats game on a team and individual player level.
- Present individual teaching clips to players.
- Assist the General Manager and Head Coach with player evaluations and selection process at Fall and Development Camps.
- Provide the General Manager and Head Coach with insight, guidance and opinion on potential player transactions, including trades as well as the listing/dropping of players from the Regina Pats 50 man list.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Regina Pats players, prospects and their families.
- Assist the Head Coach with WHL hockey administrative tasks as assigned.
- Assist with Manager of Hockey Operations with the planning and execution of the Regina Pats travel schedule (including but not limited to the bus schedule, pre and post-game meals, hotel accommodations).
- Keep, maintain, and prepare effective and accurate records for Hockey Operations budget and accounting requirements.
- Adhere to, and comply with, all QCSEG and WHL rules, regulations, and code of conducts as amended from time to time.

Education and Experience
- Prior experience working as an Assistant Coach at the CHL or Professional Level preferred. Preference given to those candidates with Head Coach experience at the Midget AAA level or higher.
- Hockey Canada National Coach Certification Program High Performance 1 Certification
- Proficient in use of MS Office applications.
Other
- Extensive and regular travel required throughout Western Canada and the Western United States. Must be able to enter the United States.
- The hours of work are irregular and vary; working these hours is required to successfully carry out this position.
