CNC Machinist – Lathe, Mill & Bridge Mill Operator
The role
Good machining is about more than running a program. It’s knowing when something’s not quite right before it becomes a scrap part. It’s understanding the material, reading the drawing, and trusting your setup. The people who are good at this take quiet pride in the work – and it shows in every part that comes off the machine.
We’re looking for a CNC Machinist who can operate lathes, mills, and our AWEA LP-25YZF Bridge Mill – a large-format, 5-face machining center. If you’ve worked on big iron and know how to hold tight tolerances on heavy, complex parts, this is worth reading.
About the AWEA Bridge Mill
The LP-25YZF is a Bridge-Type 5-Face Machining Center built for large-format, high-precision work. It’s designed for the kind of parts most shops can’t handle – heavy frames, large plates, and complex custom fabrications that need to be right the first time.
- 5-face machining in a single setup – better accuracy, less handling
- Large travel: 6,000 mm (X) × 3,200 mm (Y) × 1,000 mm (Z)
- Table capacity up to 20,000 kg
- Positioning accuracy ±0.015 mm; repeatability ±0.003 mm
- 32-tool magazine standard, up to 120; 20 kg max tool weight
- 22/26 kW spindle, up to 10,000 RPM
- Fanuc-based control – G-Code and CAM software compatible
Experience on a machine like this is an asset. If you haven’t run one specifically but you’ve worked on large-format mills and understand 5-face work, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be setting up and running CNC lathes, mills, and the bridge mill to produce parts across a range of materials and tolerances. You’ll read blueprints directly, load and prepare raw stock, run test cuts, and inspect your own work. Most of our jobs are short-run and custom, so you’ll be setting up new work regularly rather than running the same part all day.
Day to day
- Set up and operate CNC lathes and mills for drilling, turning, milling, and grinding
- Set up and run the AWEA LP-25YZF Bridge Mill for large-format, multi-face jobs
- Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings to understand job requirements
- Translate job specs into machine commands and confirm setups before running
- Load raw material and parts, and run test cuts to verify against spec
- Configure machines for full production cycles on multi-part jobs
- Monitor machines during operation and adjust stay on tolerance
- Inspect and measure finished parts using precision instruments
- Perform daily machine checks and routine maintenance
- Keep your work area clean, organized, and safe
What you bring
You’ve completed an apprenticeship or have equivalent hands-on experience – you know the fundamentals, and you’ve proven you can apply them. You’re comfortable with precision measurement, you read drawings well, and you don’t need someone looking over your shoulder to produce good work.
- Completed machinist apprenticeship or equivalent proven experience
- Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and mills
- Experience with large-format CNC mills or 5-face machining centers is a strong asset
- Familiarity with Fanuc controls and G-Code
- Able to read and work directly from blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Comfortable with precision measurement tools – micrometres, calipers, gauges
- Basic understanding of CNC programming and CAD/CAM
- Mechanically minded with solid math skills
- Detail-oriented and focused on getting it right, not just getting it done
- Reliable, communicates clearly, works well with a team
A diploma or certification in a machining or engineering discipline is a bonus, not a requirement. We care more about what you can do than what’s on paper.
