Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Utility Locator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires a strong understanding of underground infrastructure, safety protocols, and the operation of various heavy and hand tools. The Utility Locator plays a critical role in preventing utility damages, ensuring project safety, and maintaining efficient workflow on-site.
Duties
- Locate and mark underground utilities such as electrical, gas, water, and telecommunications lines,water,sewer utilities using specialized equipment and techniques.
- Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and construction plans to verify utility locations.
- Operate company vehicle in safe manner.
- Read site plans, area maps and blueprints to determine location of underground high-voltage electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, telephone and other communications lines, as well as duct banks and electric/water/gas taps to buildings.
- Mark buried utility locations and communicate relevant information to excavation personnel or other appropriate authorities. Operate line locator equipment, including metal detector.
- Conduct low voltage testing to confirm utility locations and ensure safety before excavation begins.
- Follow all safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation, electrical work, and excavation procedures.
- Document findings accurately and communicate with project teams regarding utility locations and potential hazards.Skills
- Mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bucket trucks, and rigging techniques.
- Experience operating power tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment for utility locating.
- Electrical experience or background in low voltage systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, maps, and technical drawings related to underground utilities.
- Valid Ontario (G) Driver’s License and clean drivers record.
- Ability to work long hours when required to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of welding techniques is a plus for infrastructure repairs or modifications.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills to identify potential hazards or inaccuracies in utility locations.

Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour
