Dunwald & Fleming Enterprises Ltd. is seeking an experienced Earthworks Supervisor to join our civil construction team. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day field operations, coordinating crews and subcontractors, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project drawings, specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Responsibilities
- Supervising site crews of 2-10 persons, including operators, labourer, flaggers, and subcontractors
- Coordinate daily field operations with Project Managers to meet project budgets, schedules, drawings, and specifications.
- Oversee earthworks scopes including demolition, remediation, reclamation, grading, excavation, backfill and stie preparation
- Interpret construction drawings, grading plans, elevations, and survey layouts
- Utilize and support GPS machine control systems for dozers and graders
- Manage commercial and residential excavation scopes, including bulk and detailed excavation, slab on grade prep, backfill, and final grading
- Coordinate cut/fill operations and site development using excavators, dozers, graders, and rock trucks
- Implement and maintain site-specific health and safety programs.
- Optimize productively by effectively coordinating labour, equip, materials, and subcontractors
- Monitor production, quality, and efficiency to ensure project requirements are achieved
- Maintain clear communication with Project Managers, clients, consultants, inspectors, subcontractors, and crews
- Plan and prioritize daily work activities and allocate resources accordingly
- Proactively identify and resolve field issues to keep projects on track
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 2–5 years of supervisory or site management experience in civil construction.
- Strong working knowledge of earthworks, including demolition, remediation, reclamation, grading, excavation, backfill, and site preparation.
- Experience in both commercial and residential excavation projects
- Proficiency with GPS machine control and operating environments involving dozers, graders, excavators, and rock trucks
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, survey layouts, and project specifications
- Strong leadership kills with the ability to manage crews and subcontractors.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Solid problem-solving skills and the capacity to make timely, practical field decisions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and allocate resources effectively
- A reliable, results driven approach with a high level of accountability and professionalism
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a minimum of three years of insurable driving history (insurance proof required)
- Valid Ground Disturbance Level II certificate (in-class training)
- Preference will be given to candidates with valid safety tickets (CSTS-2020, PCST, WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space)
- Some out of town work may be required

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
