Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Daycare Kitchen Assistant to support our childcare facility’s food service operations, working within a catered program and following a pre-set menu to receive, portion, and deliver meals to classrooms . This role is vital in ensuring that children receive nutritious, safe, and well-prepared meals in a clean and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in food handling, meal service, and food safety protocols, along with a genuine passion for working with children and supporting their nutritional needs. In addition, this role includes maintaining cleanliness thorughout the common areas of the center to uphold a consistently safe, hygienic, and high-quality care environment.
Duties
- Assist with the distribution of catered meals and snacks to classrooms in a timely and organized manner.
- Ensure catered food is handled, stored, and transported according to food safety and health regulations.
- Support meal service by delivering and distributing food to classrooms and collecting meal carts or containers as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food service areas, including cleaning serving equipment, utensils, and surfaces.
- Perform routine cleaning of common areas, including vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting surfaces, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.
- Ensure washrooms, hallways, and shared spaces are kept clean, sanitized, and well stocked as required.
- Assist with monitoring food service and cleaning supplies and notify staff when inventory needs replenishing.
- Support the overall daily operations of the center by maintaining clean, safe, and organized common areas and assisting with meal distribution during designated service times.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food service, restaurant, or kitchen environments preferred.
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and meal assembly techniques.
- Familiarity with food safety standards and proper food handling procedures.
- Experience working with children or in a childcare setting is a plus.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and adhere to health regulations.
- Basic understanding of serving techniques and food presentation skills.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Valid and up-to-date immunizations as required by organizational policy.
