We have an exciting opportunity at our downtown Calgary office to join the role of a Pleadings Clerk. Reporting to the Managing Partners, your role will include but are not limited to the following:
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Drafting & Review
- Review intake materials, client information, and supporting documentation to understand each claim
- Identify all appropriate parties/defendants and conduct additional searches as needed
- Draft Statements of Claim in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and firm standards
- Submit pleadings for lawyer review and incorporate revisions
- Perform final quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to filing
Filing & Service
- File Statements of Claim with the appropriate Alberta court
- Prepare service documents and coordinate service on all defendants
- Communicate with process servers and internal teams to ensure timely and proper service
- Track and confirm completion of service, including organizing proof of service
Workflow & File Management
- Maintain and update internal tracking systems to monitor file progress
- Manage a high‑volume caseload while prioritizing urgent files and limitation deadlines
- Follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure files move forward without delay
- Update file records and internal systems to reflect current status
Risk & Compliance
- Monitor limitation periods and critical deadlines
- Ensure all pleadings and related steps are completed within required timelines
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with lawyers, legal assistants, and intake teams to advance files efficiently
- Respond to internal inquiries regarding file status, drafting, and procedural requirements
- Provide support and guidance to team members as needed
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in litigation support or pleadings (Alberta experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of Alberta civil litigation procedures and the Alberta Rules of Court
- Experience drafting Statements of Claim and coordinating filing and service
- Ability to manage high‑volume work while maintaining strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize competing deadlines

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8‑hour shift
