The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, with team members providing service to children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Casual Social Worker to support our Emergency Department with additional coverage in Critical Care and Inpatient units as needed. This role provides flexible, as-needed coverage to support staffing needs, including shift vacancies and absences. Working within a pediatric, family centered care environment with high acuity, the Social Work III delivers timely psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, and discharge planning support to patients and families facing complex and often urgent challenges. The ability to quickly adapt, prioritize, and collaborate across multiple clinical areas and disciplines is essential. The Social Work III provides care in the areas of trauma, crisis intervention, grief and loss, palliation, catastrophic diagnosis, sexual abuse, child maltreatment, chronic and acute illness, and medical conditions. This position includes day, night, and weekend shifts as per rotation. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit excellent clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills including analytical thinking & conflict resolution/negotiation; will be organized in managing a diverse & complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical & operational needs; & will demonstrate effective interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience.
Description:
As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of three to five years of direct clinical experience in pediatric, acute care, or emergency settings. Formal training and demonstrated ability to deliver trauma–informed interventions. Formal training and demonstrated ability in crisis intervention. Formal training and demonstrated experience supporting families through grief and loss. Demonstrated experience with the intersection of child welfare and medical Social Work to address child maltreatment and neglect. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to organize work and set priorities autonomously.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced clinical skills and experience working within a variety of pediatric environments, including but not limited to the PICU, NICU, Emergency, and Palliative Care. Experience working with mental health concerns impacting the family system is an asset.
