Our client, a leading food manufacturing company, is looking to bring on board a hands on, Manager of Supply Chain & Procurement for their facility in the Mississauga area. The new opportunity will own the end-to-end flow of materials and services into the plant, the movement of finished goods out to customers, and the commercial relationships that make both directions reliable and cost-effective. This is a great opportunity to be a key stakeholder in a growing company that invests in its employees.
What we are looking for you to do:
- Material requirements planning: convert the production schedule and demand forecast into purchasing plans with appropriate lead-time and safety-stock buffers.
- Participate in (or lead) the sales and operations planning cycle, translating commercial forecasts into material and capacity implications and flagging constraints early.
- Set and manage inventory targets balancing service level, working capital, shelf life, and storage capacity; drive down obsolete, aged, and slow-moving stock.
- Inventory accuracy through cycle counting, root-cause analysis of variances, and support of physical inventory and month-end close.
- Manage shelf-life-sensitive materials on FEFO principles and coordinate disposition of non-conforming or expiring stock with QA.
- Own inbound and outbound transportation end to end: mode selection, carrier and lane strategy, rate negotiation, tendering, and day-to-day execution across LTL, FTL, intermodal, and courier.
- Own outbound finished goods distribution and customer delivery performance, including appointment scheduling, retailer and distributor compliance requirements, and management of chargebacks, deductions, and OS&D claims.
- Manage temperature-controlled and ambient freight requirements, load configuration, pallet standards, and shipment documentation.
- Oversee cross-border shipments: Incoterms selection, customs documentation, tariff classification, CUSMA origin documentation, and customs broker coordination.
- Plant shipping and receiving operations, dock scheduling, and yard flow in partnership with the warehouse team.
- Ensure warehousing and material handling practices meet food safety, allergen segregation, traceability, pest control, and health and safety requirements.
- Develop and execute category sourcing strategies for raw ingredients, packaging, transportation and warehousing, and outside services.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, volume commitments, service levels, and contract language; manage renewals ahead of expiry rather than under deadline pressure.
- Supplier performance management: scorecards covering quality, on-time-in-full delivery, responsiveness, and cost; lead structured business reviews and corrective action follow-through.
- Identify and deliver an annual cost-reduction and value-engineering pipeline through negotiation, specification changes, substitution, freight consolidation, and process improvement.
- Responsible for the full 3PL lifecycle: RFP, site audit and selection, contract and rate card negotiation, onboarding, transition, and exit planning.
- Negotiate and manage 3PL agreements covering storage, handling, value-added services, minimum volume commitments, accessorial, liability and insurance, and food safety obligations.
- Ensure all warehousing and co-packing partners hold and maintain required certifications and licences, including CFIA licensing where applicable, GFSI-benchmarked certification, and adequate recall and traceability capability.
- Manage 3PL and carrier performance through defined SLAs and scorecards — inventory accuracy, on-time shipping, order accuracy, damage rates, dwell time, and claims resolution — with structured monthly or quarterly business reviews and documented corrective actions.
- Reconcile 3PL inventory to internal records, investigate variances, and validate storage, handling, and accessorial billing against contracted rate cards.
- Manage external co-packers and third-party storage as extensions of the plant network, including material flow, inventory ownership, and quality accountability.
