ETO Engineering is a consulting engineering firm specializing in the planning, design, and construction support of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and process facilities.
Our team works closely with municipal clients across Ontario to deliver reliable infrastructure solutions that support growing communities. We are currently seeking a Junior Civil / Structural Engineer (Engineer-in-Training) to join our Richmond Hill office.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in engineering design, condition assessments, and construction support within a consulting environment.
Job Responsibilities
Engineering Design
- Assist with the civil and structural design of municipal infrastructure, including pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and related structures.
- Perform structural analysis and calculations for systems composed of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and masonry.
- Support the preparation of engineering reports, technical memoranda, design calculations, and specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of tender and construction documentation.
CAD / BIM Drafting
- Prepare civil and structural engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
- Assist with the development of Building Information Models (BIM) for infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate drawings with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.
Field Work & Condition Assessments
- Participate in site visits, structural inspections, and condition assessments of existing infrastructure.
- Assist with documenting field observations and preparing condition assessment reports.
- Collect field data and measurements to support engineering analysis and design.
Construction Support
- Assist with construction administration services, including:
- Shop drawing reviews
- Responding to contractor RFIs
- Construction site inspections
- Reviewing contractor submissions
- Support project teams to ensure construction work complies with design drawings and specifications.
Project Coordination
- Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, contractors, and municipal clients.
- Assist with project documentation, coordination meetings, and project scheduling.
- Support the delivery of projects through planning, design, and construction phases.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
Professional Registration
- Registered or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Experience
- 0–5 years of experience in civil or structural engineering.
- Co-op or internship experience in engineering consulting or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of civil and structural design principles.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards including:
- Ontario Building Code
- CSA structural design standards
- Experience with engineering software such as:
- AutoCAD
- Revit
- Civil 3D
- STAAD Pro, SAP2000, or ETABS (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Professional Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent technical writing and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
- Access to a vehicle for occasional site visits within the Greater Toronto Area.
- Willingness to participate in field work and construction site inspections.
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
