Job Title: Head Coach, Basketball - Varsity 1 & Varsity 2 (Two Openings Available)

Location: Athlete Institute, Mono, Ontario
Employment Type: 10 Month Contract
Salary: $17,500 for the contract duration, commensurate with experience and living arrangements.

Position Summary
Orangeville Prep Basketball Academy is seeking a passionate and committed Assistant Coaches for our Varsity 1 and Varsity 2 Boys Basketball Teams. These roles are ideal for coaches dedicated to developing high-performance athletes in a structured, elite prep environment. Successful candidates will support their respective Head Coach in all facets of the program while serving as a positive mentor to young student-athletes.
We are currently hiring for two distinct variations of this role based on residential requirements:
- Assistant Coach – Varsity 1: This is a residential position where residing on campus in the dormitory is a mandatory requirement. Full room and board are included.
- Assistant Coach – Varsity 2: Residing on residence is not required but is considered a strong asset. A residential option with full room and board is available for candidates interested in living on campus.
Whether living on or off-campus, these positions require a high level of maturity and responsibility to oversee and mentor minors. Candidates must provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and possess a valid G-level driver’s license.
Reporting directly to their respective Head Coach, these roles support cross-functional collaboration across the Basketball Academy to ensure total alignment in culture, training, and communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading all practices, games, individual training sessions, film reviews, and strength & conditioning sessions.
- Support athlete development on and off the court through individualized coaching, mentorship, and academic accountability.
- Maintain a respectful living environment by holding student-athletes accountable to residence expectations and ensuring the facility remains well-cared for.
- Support academic liaison efforts to ensure student-athletes are progressing toward post-secondary eligibility and success.
- Participate in the scouting, recruitment, and evaluation of prospective student-athletes, both domestically and internationally.
- Coordinate logistics for team travel, accommodation, and tournaments.
- Drive student-athletes to practices, games, and events, performing regular circle checks on academy vehicles and adhering to all usage protocols.
- Coach with the Orangeville Bears Basketball Club (OBA) and teach weekly group skill sessions in rotation.
- Contribute to media content and social media storytelling to help raise program visibility.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by leadership.

- Navigates the complex coach-athlete-parent dynamic effectively, firmly upholding program standards while providing a supportive environment for the athletes.
- Approaches challenges with a proactive problem-solving mindset and actively collaborates across teams to elevate the overall quality of the program.
- Takes personal ownership of safety, facility maintenance, and player attendance, consistently driving results without requiring close management.
Qualifications:
- Prior coaching experience at the prep, club, collegiate, or high school level.
- Strong understanding of player development and the Canadian/North American basketball pathway.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Must hold a valid G driver's license and be comfortable operating academy vehicles.
- Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) to work with minors.
- Ability to live on campus and successfully engage in a residential school environment.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to complete training prior to start date.
- NCCP coaching certifications are considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and standard digital tools.
