Manager, Labour Relations

The Opportunity
Vancouver School Board is seeking an experienced Manager, Labour Relations to provide day-to-day operational leadership within a complex, highly unionized public-sector environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with District leaders, union representatives, employees and internal stakeholders, providing practical advice and leadership across a broad range of labour relations matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day Labour Relations operations and manage complex LR matters.
- Provide guidance on collective agreements, collective bargaining, grievances, mediation and arbitration.
- Advise leaders on employee discipline, performance management, investigations and employment legislation.
- Support the Director, Labour Relations on complex and higher-risk matters.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with unions and organizational stakeholders.
- Coach and mentor Labour Relations Advisors and Coordinators.
- Ensure labour relations practices and advice are consistent, timely and well documented.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen LR processes and team capabilities.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Progressive Labour Relations/Employee Relations experience in a complex, unionized environment.
- Strong experience with collective bargaining and collective agreement interpretation/administration.
- Experience managing grievances, arbitration, investigations, discipline and performance matters.
- Strong knowledge of applicable employment/labour legislation.
- Experience advising senior leaders and working effectively with union representatives.
- Leadership, coaching or mentoring experience.
- Excellent communication, judgement, organization and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative, practical and service-oriented approach.
Preferred Background
Experience in K-12 education, public sector, healthcare, municipal government, post-secondary education, or other multi-union environments would be highly relevant.
Experienced Senior Labour Relations Advisors or LR professionals ready to step into a broader leadership role are also encouraged to apply.

Work Arrangement: In-person
Pay: $110,000.00-$149,563.95 per year
