Controller for a Fraser Valley Builder
The controller will lead the accounting department, manage financial data, internal controls and reporting systems to ensure the financial health of the company and construction projects. This position will be responsible for accurate job costing, work in progress scheduling, cash management and financial reporting to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee monthly closing, prepare financial statements, manage the general ledger, and monitor cash flow. Prepare year end and liaise with external accountants to obtain tax efficiencies.
- Job Costing & Analysis: Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, track job costs, and prepare variance analysis for project managers and owners.
- WIP Reporting: Generate accurate Work in Progress (WIP) schedules to track profitability and project health.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with lien legislation, statutory holdbacks, and contract structures. Manage certified payroll and sales tax.
- AP/AR & Payroll: Oversee vendor billings, subcontract invoicing, pay applications, and payroll.
- Internal Controls: Implement policies to improve financial accuracy and strengthen internal control procedures.
- Banking & Audits: Coordinate with banks for financing and lead year-end audits.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience as a Controller in the construction industry (5+ years).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certifications: CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
- Software Proficiency: Experience with construction-specific software (e.g., QuickBooks Contractor Edition).
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GAAP, lien laws, and job cost accounting.

Pay Range: $100,000-$120,000 based on experience
Benefits paid for by employer and bonuses based on performance.
