Litigation Associate (3–5 Years)
Getz Collins & Associates – Calgary, Alberta
Are you the type of lawyer who enjoys a good legal argument, a well-drafted application, and cool colleagues? We're looking for a Litigation Associate (3–5 years' experience) to join our growing team.
Who We Are
Getz Collins & Associates is a busy, client-focused law firm serving clients throughout Alberta. Our litigation practice is diverse, challenging, and never boring. One day you may be arguing a chambers application, the next you're negotiating a settlement, conducting questioning, or helping an employer navigate a complex workplace dispute.
We take our work seriously. Ourselves? Slightly less so.
What You'll Do
- Manage files from inception through resolution
- Conduct legal research and prepare written arguments
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, applications, briefs, and correspondence
- Attend Questioning, mediations, chambers applications, and trials
- Advise clients on litigation strategy and risk management
- Handle employment law matters, including wrongful dismissal, workplace investigations, employment agreements, and human rights issues
- Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years of litigation experience
- Experience in litigation and employment law is strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta legislation, Rules of Court, and civil litigation procedures
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to manage files independently while collaborating with a supportive team
- Practical judgment, strong organization, and a sense of humour that can survive litigation
Bonus Points If You:
- Can explain a complicated legal issue without sounding like a textbook
- Know that "urgent" and "opposing counsel's lack of planning" are not always the same thing
- Understand that clients appreciate responsiveness almost as much as favourable outcomes
- Can remain calm when a 4:55 p.m. email arrives marked "WITHOUT PREJUDICE"
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation package
- Bonus opportunities
- Strong administrative and legal support
- Interesting files and meaningful client work
- A collegial environment where lawyers are trusted to practice law, not micromanaged into submission
