ABOUT THE COMPANY
Yorkwell Apparel (Canada) Ltd. is a British Columbia-based apparel company engaged in apparel sourcing, product development, production coordination, wholesale distribution, retail operations, marketing, and sales throughout North America. The company forms part of an established international apparel manufacturing group and works closely with affiliated manufacturing facilities and global supply chain partners to develop, manufacture, distribute, and retail apparel products for Canadian and international markets.
Since its establishment in 2023, Yorkwell Apparel (Canada) Ltd. has expanded its operations across multiple business channels, including wholesale distribution and retail sales. In addition to serving customers throughout Canada and the United States, the company currently operates retail stores within the Greater Vancouver Area and continues to expand its North American presence. To support continued growth and increasing operational complexity, the company is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee Canadian operations and lead the implementation of strategic business initiatives approved by the Directors.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Directors, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the overall operations of the company. The COO will provide executive leadership in operational management, apparel manufacturing coordination, sourcing, production planning, supply chain management, wholesale distribution, retail operations, business development, financial performance, and organizational growth while ensuring the successful execution of corporate objectives and long-term business strategies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Represent the organization in negotiations and maintain relationships with key business partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the overall operations of the company.
- Implement strategic business plans, operational initiatives, and corporate objectives established by the Directors.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, performance standards, and organizational goals to support sustainable business growth and operational excellence.
- Direct and oversee sales, marketing, sourcing, procurement, inventory management, logistics, customer service, finance, human resources, and administrative functions.
- Allocate material, human, and financial resources to implement company objectives and maximize operational efficiency and profitability.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, business planning, and resource allocation activities.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and financial targets to improve productivity, profitability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Analyze operational and financial reports and recommend improvements to business processes, resource utilization, organizational effectiveness, and revenue generation.
- Oversee apparel sourcing, raw material procurement, vendor management, inventory control, warehousing, distribution, and logistics activities.
- Direct coordination between Canadian operations and affiliated manufacturing facilities to ensure efficient production scheduling, inventory availability, quality standards, cost control, and timely delivery of products to North American markets.
- Oversee apparel production planning and manufacturing coordination to support product launches, seasonal collections, inventory forecasting, and customer demand requirements.
- Evaluate manufacturing performance, production capacity, sourcing strategies, quality metrics, production costs, and operational efficiencies to improve profitability and business performance.
- Direct quality assurance and quality control initiatives to ensure products meet company specifications, customer expectations, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners, suppliers, product development teams, sourcing specialists, and logistics providers to align production capabilities with business objectives and market demand.
- Lead initiatives relating to apparel product development, manufacturing optimization, supply chain resilience, operational improvement, retail expansion, and market growth.
- Direct and oversee senior management personnel and Department Head and delegate authority to middle managers across functional areas including the operations of the company’s retail stores, including sales performance, staffing, inventory management, merchandising, customer experience standards, loss prevention, operational compliance, and retail performance metrics
- Develop and implement retail operating strategies, performance targets, marketing initiatives, and business development plans to support revenue growth and market expansion.
- Monitor retail sales performance, consumer trends, store profitability, and customer experience metrics and implement corrective measures and improvement initiatives where necessary.
- Coordinate inventory planning and replenishment activities across manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, and retail channels to ensure product availability and inventory optimization.
- Evaluate retail operations and identify opportunities to improve customer experience, operational efficiency, sales performance, and profitability.
- Monitor developments in the apparel, textile, fashion, manufacturing, sourcing, wholesale, and retail industries and identify opportunities for business growth, innovation, and competitive advantage.
- Establish and maintain strategic relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, logistics providers, major customers, landlords, financial institutions, industry organizations, and other business partners.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, evaluate, and develop management personnel and departmental staff.
- Develop succession planning and employee development initiatives to strengthen organizational capacity and leadership capabilities.
- Assess operational, financial, supply chain, retail, and commercial risks and implement appropriate risk management and business continuity measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, corporate policies, employment standards, workplace safety requirements, privacy obligations, and industry best practices.
- Prepare operational analyses, budgets, forecasts, management reports, and strategic recommendations for review by the Directors.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Management, Fashion Business, Apparel Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Management, Operations Management, Marketing, or a related discipline;
OR
- College diploma in Business Management, Apparel Production, Fashion Merchandising, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Marketing, or another relevant discipline, combined with substantial senior management experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience within the apparel, fashion, garment manufacturing, textile manufacturing, apparel sourcing, apparel production, wholesale distribution, retail apparel, or related consumer products industry.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a senior management or executive leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing apparel manufacturing operations, production planning, sourcing, supply chain management, product development, quality assurance, inventory management, wholesale distribution, retail operations, and international logistics.
- Proven experience managing relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, sourcing partners, logistics providers, retail operators, landlords, and distribution channels.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing operational policies, budgets, performance metrics, business plans, and organizational growth strategies.
- Strong understanding of apparel manufacturing processes, production planning, quality management systems, sourcing strategies, merchandising, retail operations, inventory management, and international supply chain operations.
- Experience supporting business operations serving Canadian, United States, and international markets.
- Experience overseeing multi-location retail operations is considered a strong asset.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage organizational growth, and drive continuous operational improvement.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
