Volunteers are an essential part in our efforts to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty. The Volunteer Engagement Team is designed to recruit, train and support volunteers on behalf of The Mustard Seed program teams. The Volunteer Engagement Worker (Canada Summer Job) will be responsible for assisting the volunteer coordinators in training volunteers and facilitating programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be the first point of contact for volunteers; creating a welcoming atmosphere and a culture of hospitality.
- Maintaining and supporting volunteer roles
- Maintaining and inputting information into volunteer database
- Working with staff and volunteers to ensure donations are sorted and organized appropriately for our program areas.
- Support the dignity of our guests by seeking to identify their needs in a respectful manner.
- Be a supportive and proactive teammate to fellow support staff.
- Attend meetings and training as assigned.
- Respect proper boundaries with guests.
- Support the ministry within the Mustard Seed Community and act as a positive Mustard Seed ambassador.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Passion for fostering a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness in churches and the community
- Empathy for the poor and a desire for greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urban center
- Completing post-secondary studies in ministry, social work, education, community development, youth and childcare studies, or a related program
- Strong computer, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Interest and skills in recreational activities such as sports or gardening is an asset
- Strong team building and leadership skills
- Between the ages of 18 - 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- This posting will fill one position and is temporary from approximately June 22-August 31, 2026 and it is a requirement that interns can attend all 10 weeks
WORKING CONDITIONS
- 35 hours per week; some evening and weekend hours maybe required to accommodate the hours of the community hubs
- The working environment for this position requires moderate amounts of walking, climbing, standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, and daily interactions with colleagues and guests.
- This position is often fast-paced, and requires moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve.
- This position requires the training and usage of two-way radio communications and MS Office based computer programming.
