The District of Lantzville is currently seeking to fill a newly created position, Maintenance Technician II—In Training for Maintenance Technician III, reporting to the Public Works Working Foreman. The core requirement of this position is to become certified as a Level 3 water operator. The Maintenance Technician III will provide day-to-day supervision to ensure training is provided for the incumbent to achieve Level 3 water certification.
This position will also perform a variety of manual construction and maintenance related tasks and operates a wide range of municipal equipment as and when required. Most tasks involve year-round outside work in all types of weather, dirt, noise, noxious odors, sewage and excavations. Independent judgment is required to devise appropriate procedures and solve problems.
The Maintenance Technician II must have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy physical labour with the ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects, walk or stand continuously with frequent bending or twisting and the ability to work close to moving machinery and in high traffic areas.
Qualifications include current possession of a Level 2 water operator certification from the EOCP with sufficient hours to qualify for and pass the exam for a Level 3 water operator within 3 years. Applicants with municipal experience will be given preference.
This position has been concurrently posted internally. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm with a half-hour unpaid lunch break, Monday to Friday, except statutory holidays which are subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. The rate of pay is $40.21 [455-hours worked probationary period] after which the rate of pay increases to $42.33 per hour (January 2026 rate). Terms and conditions of employment are covered by the Collective Agreement between CUPE Local 401 and the District of Lantzville.
