Hardline Engineering is currently seeking an Engineer-in-Training to join our ENMAX Network team in Calgary, AB. The Engineer-in-Training’s primary role will be to support and develop experience in a range of design and project engineering tasks across the team. The successful candidate will work within an interdisciplinary project team under the guidance of a Professional Engineer and will be collaborating with various divisions including safety, engineering, construction, clients, and procurement
ROLE OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the ENMAX Program Manager, the Engineer in Training (ENMAX Network, Distribution, Assets) will design distribution projects for Hardline Engineering clients. The E.I.T. will collaborate with various divisions including safety, stakeholder engagement & permitting, engineering, asset management, construction, accounting and procurement.
Successful candidates may be located in Edmonton or Calgary.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of design packages for capital asset and customer-driven projects, including feasibility assessments, detailed designs, Engineering Work Packages, and field instructions under the guidance of a Professional Engineer.
- Support project development activities, including scope definition, cost estimating, budget development, and participation in client kickoff and design review meetings.
- Develop engineering drawings including, single-line diagrams, primary feeder maps, and manhole and vault layout drawings.
- Coordinate field activities including traffic control, survey, utility locates, and GPR scanning.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders including safety, construction, clients, customers, and procurement.
- Participate in site visits and field inspections and prepare field reports.
- Develop familiarity with utility and client standards, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) Part III, and company design practices.
- Report work compliance with relevant codes, standards and procedures.
- Develop working knowledge of engineering tools such as Pull Planner and other relevant software.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of company engineering standards, procedures, and documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of industry trends and best practices and participate in internal technical training and development programs.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Must be registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.), with the ability to obtain a P.Eng. designation.
- 1+ year of relevant experience within an engineering environment considered an asset (co-op experience will be considered).
- Proficiency in standard engineering and office software, including Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willing and able to travel periodically for site visits, audits, and inspections within the ENMAX underground system (electrical manholes and transformer vaults).
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities, multiple assignments, deadlines, and budgets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, high level of accountability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn, with a client-focused and results-driven approach.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Exposure to utility, distribution, or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
- Experience with engineering, modeling, or drafting software, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, and Pull Planner is considered an asset.

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
