We are seeking an experienced Seasonal Safety Coordinator to support our underground projects in the Edmonton area. This is a field-based role focused on promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and working closely with crews, supervisors, and project teams on active job sites.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on construction safety experience, particularly in underground utilities, excavation, and trenching operations, and is confident engaging directly with field personnel.
This is a seasonal contract position with potential for extension based on workload, project timelines, and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site safety support across multiple heavy civil projects
- Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and audits
- Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and orientations
- Ensure compliance with Alberta OHS legislation, company policies, and COR standards
- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Monitor high-risk activities including:
- Excavations and trenching
- Confined space entry
- Ground disturbance and utility work
- Work closely with supervisors and crews to identify hazards and implement controls
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting
- Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching and engagement
Qualifications & Requirements
- MINIMUM of 3 years of experience in an HSE role
- Experience in the heavy civil construction industry required
- Working towards or completion of NCSO
- Completion of Grade 12 or GED
- Train the Trainer for WHMIS, TDG, Flag person and First Aid an asset
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code
- Experience with COR programs and audit processes
- Valid clean Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
