Charter Bus Driver (Class 2 with AirBrakes)

We’re currently hiring part-time, casual, and on-call Class 2 or Class 4 Unrestricted bus drivers to support our youth programs and operate charter buses. Western Educational Adventures (WEA) is a small, company that runs bus charters and outdoor adventure camps for kids and some adults on Vancouver Island, primarily in the Greater Victoria area. Our goal is to provide, quality charter bus services to the island community that is reliable but price conscious. We want to help make transportation accessible to all youth (and adults). WEA is looking for Class 2 drivers to operate our bus charters. Renumeration
- $31-$36/hr for bus driving
- $25/hr for any potential administrative work that you can optionally take on.
Hours
1. Bus Charters – Hours vary depending on the charter schedule. We are currently seeking drivers for on-call, casual, and part-time positions. This position is often ideal for retirees, semi-retired individuals, or people who already have another job and are looking for a few extra days of flexible supplemental work each week. For team members who become a strong long-term fit, full-time opportunities may become available over time. Bus charters account for approximately 80–95% of the total driving work.
2. Summer Camp Runs – Regular work scheduled to some drivers.
a. Monday-Thursdays
- Inspection & 1st transfer Quadra/Mackenzie to Sooke – 07:00 to 09:45
- Shuttle within Sooke. Approximately 12:00 to 13:00
- Sooke to Quadra/Mackenzie 15:05 to 17:00
b. Fridays
- Inspection & 1st transfer Quadra/Mackenzie to Sooke – 07:00 to 09:45
- Sooke to Quadra/Mackenzie 16:05 to 18:30 or 19:00
In between these hours, drivers are not necessarily required to work. However, they will need to remain close by and on-call. Drivers may be offered optional camp work when camp staff are off sick, etc.
Expectations
WEA bus drivers are expected to:
- Have a passion and skill for working with people
- Display WEA’s values and beliefs
- Have a relatively clean driving record and demonstrates solid risk awareness and management skills
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism, including time management.
- Be able to adapt and problem solve
Responsibilities
This contract requires you to be able to perform various functions and duties, some of which are listed below:
- Drive to and from various locations throughout Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island and possibly further.
- Complete a thorough pre-trip inspection prior to and post-trip inspection after driving
- Complete daily log and timesheet of hours worked
- Attend required training sessions
- Provide constructive feedback for supervisors, other staff, and programs
Minimum qualifications
- Class 2 Drivers License with Ari Brakes
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
