This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build their technical skills in a manufacturing environment. Working alongside experienced engineers, the Drafting Technologist will support the day-to-day design, drafting, and development of company products while gaining hands-on experience with engineering projects from concept through production.
General Accountability:
The Drafting Technologist is responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings and supporting engineering documentation for manufacturing and product development. Using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other drafting tools, this role helps ensure drawings are accurate, up to date, and meet company and customer requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Create and update 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
2. Support the Engineering team with drafting, design changes, and engineering documentation.
3. Prepare and revise drawings for quotations, production, and engineering projects.
4. Assist with the design and improvement of company products and custom manufacturing equipment.
5. Work with internal teams to ensure drawings meet manufacturing and operational requirements.
6. Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), drawing templates, and other engineering documents.
7. Assist with sourcing materials and preparing parts lists for equipment builds.
8. Create SolidWorks renderings and animations when required.
9. Maintain organized drawing files and revision records.
10. Support product improvements, supplier evaluations, and quality initiatives as needed.
11. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required for supplier visits, training, quality audits, and other business needs.
12. Complete other duties and projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in manufacturing and product design.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or steel fabrication environment is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, welding and fabrication practices, and industry standards is considered an asset.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, including internationally, as business needs require.
- Effective time-management and organizational skills.
- Strong strategic and continuous improvement mindset.
- Fluent in English.
Pay: $45,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
