Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Learning Assistance Teacher, the Specialized Education Assistant position provides one-to-one support to students with a range of diverse learning/physical/social needs.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
Job Responsibilities and Work Performed
- Gives close continuous supervision on an individual basis for physically dependent students with multiple needs (i.e. the student always requires assistance for feeding, dressing, toileting, mobility and personal hygiene).
- Assists students with integration into the classroom and school setting.
- Provides and supervises personal assistance to students with physical handicaps in mobility, toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, and assists with gross motor skill programs and activities.
- Attends to the physical safety of student(s) ensuring emergency equipment and procedures are present, current and functional.
- Operates, adjusts and assists with specialized equipment (i.e. speech computer programs, personal communicator, light pointer, Life Skills equipment, wheelchairs).
- Provides medical care to designated students as directed by health professionals (i.e. administering medication, monitoring for seizure severity, record keeping) where the consequences for error could be life threatening.
- Carries out work within developed structures and plans, being consistent with expectations set for student.
- Monitors and reports student progress to classroom teacher and LAT
- Supports the implementation of student’s behavioral management plans.
- Assists with the implementation of student daily goals/needs.
- Produces materials and implements strategies to accommodate individual learner needs/styles.
- Maintain positive, supportive, professional working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements
Assets:
- Experience working with children (4-15 yrs of age)
- Certified Education Assistant and/or Care Aide
