Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and engaging Companion Caregiver to provide companionship and non-medical support to a senior living with early-stage dementia. The primary focus of this role is to promote independence, provide meaningful social interaction, and assist with community outings and everyday activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships and making a positive impact in a senior’s daily life. A valid G driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required, as transportation to appointments and outings will be part of the role.
Duties
- Provide companionship and emotional support through conversation, recreational activities, and social engagement
- Accompany the client on community outings, errands, appointments, and social activities
- Provide transportation using your own reliable vehicle when required
- Encourage participation in activities that promote cognitive stimulation and overall well-being
- Prepare light meals and snacks as needed
- Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and comfortable living environment
- Provide reminders for appointments, daily routines, and medications (no medication administration required)
- Monitor the client’s overall well-being and report any changes in behaviour, mood, or health to the care coordinator or family
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment at all times
- Build a trusting relationship while respecting the client’s dignity, preferences, and independence
Skills
- Previous experience providing companionship, senior care, dementia care, or home care is considered an asset
- Experience supporting individuals living with early-stage dementia is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Patient, compassionate, dependable, and professional
- Ability to encourage engagement while respecting the client’s independence
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence
- Access to a reliable, insured vehicle and willingness to transport the client as needed
- Comfortable preparing light meals and completing light housekeeping tasks
- Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the care team
Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
