We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Fabrication Shop Foreman to join our team at our new construction site in New Westminster, BC. Reporting directly to the Site Superintendent, the Foreman will oversee day-to-day operations of the mechanical fabrication shop, leading a skilled trades crew to deliver high-quality fabricated assemblies safely, on schedule, and to specification.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both strong technical knowledge in mechanical fabrication and the ability to manage people, coordinate workflow, and maintain a culture of safety and quality on a busy construction site.
Summary
We are seeking a Fabrication Shop Foreman-Mechanical to oversee our mechanical fabrication processes at our facility in Canada. This role is vital in ensuring that our projects meet quality standards and are completed on time, supporting our mission to deliver top-tier energy-efficient building solutions.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Crew Management
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate the daily activities of fabrication shop tradespeople, apprentices, and helpers.
- Assign work tasks based on crew skill levels, project priorities, and schedule requirements.
- Conduct daily pre-shift toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Monitor crew performance and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Liaise directly with the Site Superintendent on manpower needs, scheduling, and site progress.
Fabrication & Technical Oversight
- Oversee the fabrication, assembly, and installation of mechanical systems including piping, structural steel, skids, and equipment.
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and specifications.
- Ensure all fabricated work meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot fabrication issues and provide practical solutions to keep work moving.
- Coordinate with QA/QC personnel to ensure inspection hold points are met before work proceeds.
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a safety-first culture across the fabrication shop at all times.
- Enforce compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company safety standards, and site-specific safety plans.
- Identify and promptly report hazards, near-misses, and incidents; participate in investigations where required.
- Ensure all crew members have current and valid certifications for the tasks they perform.
- Manage use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment in compliance with safety requirements.
Planning & Coordination
- Plan daily and weekly fabrication workflows to meet project milestones and schedule targets.
- Coordinate material deliveries, consumable stock, and tooling requirements with the procurement and site teams.
- Track progress against the fabrication schedule and flag delays or resource needs to the Superintendent.
- Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and look-ahead planning sessions.
- Maintain accurate daily production logs, timesheets, and crew records.
- Qualifications
- Proven 5 years of experience in mechanical fabrication or manufacturing environments.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively.
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP or similar platforms.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical systems and fabrication processes.
- Knowledge of process improvement methodologies like lean manufacturing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Relevant certifications or technical training in mechanical fabrication preferred.
